MCPEAK/RENO CAPTURE EVIAN BEST OF THE BEACH II
LIHUE, HI. - Top-seeded Holly McPeak and Nancy Reno capped their
domestic season by capturing their fifth-straight Coors Light
Women's Pro Beach Volleyball Tour here Saturday in the nationally-
televised finals of the Evian Best of the Beach II at Nawiliwili
Park near Kalapaki Beach.
McPeak and Reno, who won eight of 14 Coors Light Tour events this
season, defeated sixth-seeded Cammy Ciarelli and Barbra Fontana
Harris 15-7 in the championship match to split the $10,000 first-
place prize.
The Evian Best of the Beach was televised by CBS Sports. Andrea
Joyce of New York and Maria Barnes of Manhattan Beach, Calif.,
provided the commentary. CBS Sports concluded its third season of
covering the Coors Light Tour.
Saturday's win was also the 10th-straight event title for McPeak
and Reno on both the Coors Light Tour and the international
circuit. McPeak and Reno's current winning streak includes five
domestic titles in Old Orchard Beach, Me. (July 9), Portland, Ore.
(Aug. 6), Long Beach, Calif. (Aug. 13), Huntington Beach, Calif.
(Aug. 20) and Kauai along with FIVB Beach Volleyball World
Championship-Series crowns in Hermosa Beach, Calif. (July 16),
Korea (Julyset Castro and Forsythe 15-3 to advance to the finals.
Rock also picked up a $2,160 check for winning the "Silver Bullet"
ace award. As the Coors Light Tour's top server, Rock had 178 aces
in 84 matches for a 2.1 average per match.
McPeak and Reno won four matches this weekend to end the season
with 25-straight wins. The Coors Light Tour's top-rated team
competed in 13 finals in 14 starts this season with eight wins,
five seconds and one third in the season opener last April in
Deerfield Beach, Fla. McPeak and Reno split $115,080 in earnings
with a 74-10 match mark.
Fontana Harris, who won last year's Evian Best of the Beach I in
Las Vegas, Nev., and Ciarelli also scored upset wins over third-
seeded Linda Hanley and Deb Richardson (15-6) and Kirby and Rock
(14-11) Friday. The pair had to qualify for Friday's play by
winning two of three pool matches Thursday at Nawiliwili Park.
